The UK’s network of state and private schools can now be more energy efficient and save costs thanks to a new ‘Classroom Control Box’ product launched recently by Metway Electrical.
The device is a lighting control system that could save up to 20% of the costs of installing conventional wiring. This bespoke product alleviates the need for the installation of an LCM and commissioning of the controls provider.
The system allows lights to switch on or off automatically in absence/presence mode when someone enters the classroom. Luminaires closest to the window are responsive to daylight and can also be overridden separately to the fixed output luminaires. This comes at a time when government legislation on energy consumption is highly prevalent.
Rob Crookes, Technical Manager of Metway, comments: “Typically, lighting accounts for approximately 50% of a building’s energy costs. Our ‘Classroom Control Box’ is a lighting control system which allows you to reduce overall costs and maintain energy efficiency.”
Metway Classroom Control Kits are available for classrooms with 9, 12 and 15 luminaires and can be supplied with or without luminaire tee pieces dependant
on the luminaire being supplied with a pre-wired tee. The 2 channel dimmable
presence detector allows for separate absence switching and also separate independent override control of the switching and dimmable luminaires. Provided as standard is an option to override to off the wipe board luminaires.
