 Metway Electrical Industries is now supplying a new range of halogen-free Glow Wire Connectors, the first such product to meet the criteria of both the EN 60 335-1 performance standard and the RoHS environmental standard relating to electrical appliances.
- EN 60 335-1 relates to the stringent testing of insulating plastics via penetration from a glow wire heated to 750º C for up to 30 seconds. The resulting flame must not blaze for more than two seconds in order for the materials to meet specification.
- RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive stipulates that, from 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment must not contain lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). These toxic elements must be replaced by other substances.
